Gabi Gazit: What have you been through in the past hour? Abuelaish: I’ve been through death. Gabi Gazit: Tell us. Are you weeping? Abuelaish: I’m weeping for the children. If their parents die, what will happen to them? Or if any of them will die? Death is right in front of me. The tanks are right in front of us... Ten meters from the house and all of us are in it... Gabi Gazit: Perhaps your building has a suspected address, some armed militants inside, some...? 13 January 2009, Israeli radio 103 FM
Explosive: War Tourism is an attempt to provide a platform for the voices, the testimonies, and the reactions that accompanied the chronicle of the deaths of Bessan, Mayar, Aya, and Noor, three daughters and a niece of Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish, killed when an IDF shell hit their home during Operation Cast Lead on January 16, 2009. This is an attempt at taking personal responsibility for collective forgetting. “And you shall tell unto your daughter...” of the short-term memory.
