Letters from Another Island

The “Almost Human” Company (Dutch-British-Canadian) presents:
Letters from Another Island

A refreshing look at theatre and cinema. The thoughts, longings, and confessions of six characters in their 20s, in a dynamic work inspired by their copings with the world around them and others’ worlds as well.

The stage space is an installation temporarily serving as a green-screen film set / recording studio / theatre stage, which together with the actors creates a diverse choreography of performance and technology. Miniature stage sets, electric trains, vintage toys and cardboard cut-outs create a festive spectacle of unpretentious, analogous theatre in a world of handcrafting and lo-fi special effects.

The show was shortlisted for the Wales Theatre Critics’ award for Digital Content (2014) and the Prague Fringe Festival’s award.

The ensemble has been performing together since 2012, alternately in English and Dutch. It unites artists from different artistic forms and countries. They create experimental theatre, live filmmaking, and miniature stage sets, that is entertaining yet uncompromising, intellectual and plastic, that’s always seeking the moment of genius, original topics, novel forms and approaches.

Ensemble performers: Rosa Bekkenkamp (Dutch) | Alec Hughes (British) | Lisa Morris (British) | Twan Schenkels (Dutch) | Fraser Stevens (Canadian) | Sapphire Urwick (British)
